Back to the East Coast

In a random turn of events, I'm off to CT tomorrow. Hopefully we'll actually get to collect some data and opinions of outside observers of one of the projects I'm working on. I'll head out Wednesday night and just be in CT for Thursday. Then I'm heading down to Atlanta to spend the weekend. I've got a few telecons on Friday, but other than that I should have time to work on more thesis stuff, plus be able have lunch with some friends.

Luckily for me I had purchased two one-way tickets on different airlines for this weekend's trip. By buying my tickets that way I actually saved about $100 and now with this change I don't have to worry about the airlines canceling my trip because I missed my out-bound flight.

Sunshine

This weekend Brian came to visit and we actually had beautiful weather! It was a rare event indeed. We had beautiful sunshine and temperatures in the upper 20s. It was great. We had a relaxing and productive weekend. We slept in on Saturday as Brian's flight didn't get in until after midnight. I made pancakes, eggs and sausage for breakfast which kept us full all day. We did lots of wedding decision things and then met with our priest for the second time. Then we were off to dance lessons in a grand effort to get Brian to a point where he feels something less than terrified at dancing in public. He'll be fine once we get a few drinks in him. We had dinner at a typical Minneapolis bar/restaurant. The food was great. I had walleye stuffed with crab (actually a fillet wrapped around a crab cake). Brian had a beef filet with shrimp and garlic mashed potatoes. It was lovely.

Today we spent working on our various projects. Me on my thesis, Brian on some resume stuff. Tomorrow the epic search for jobs where both Brian and I can be in the same local continues as I interview for a permanent job at my current job. They do a thorough job of things so, it will be an all day event. Once again made slightly awkward because I currently work with these people and will continue to work with them afterwards.

Best Valentines Day Ever

This valentines day has been the best ever. Brian sent me an incredibly endearing card and then a box of my favorite chocolates. Which because I was spoiled by years in Europe are the expensive Belgian kind. I am savoring each bite. They are amazing. Nice to know the man I'm marrying hasn't lost his touch. May he repeat this feat every year.

The best parts of the presents were the note written inside the card and the fact that he remembered what my favorite kind of chocolates was. It would make a good mastercard commercial.

Poquoson Bridal Shower

This past weekend I finally made my way home for a much anticipated bridal shower. About 12 of my mom's friends and co-workers came bearing gifts of amazingly creative table clothes, place mats, towels, sheets and napkins. I was amazed at how long many of the women had known me. Despite my crazy childhood, there were many people we just kept coming back into touch with. But let's be honest. The real draw wasn't me, it was the cocktails and the chocolate covered strawberries! We made two cocktails (in pitcher quantities). The first was pink lemonade made up of vodka, triple sec, lime and cranberry juice. The second was a mud-slide which had vanilla vodka, baileys and chocolate liquor.

Becca's gift won the award for the most elaborately wrapped. I got two boxes which contained a set of cloth napkins and a crazy set of place mats. Nothing could have been better protected with tissue paper.

As an added bonus, the weather was beautiful; sunny with highs in the 60s. A far cry from the -50F that was going on in MN. I think I chose a good week to visit.

Happy Shrove Tuesday

Better known as Mardi Gras. What with the primaries and caucuses it all but slipped by unnoticed. I for one didn't have any pancakes, something I hope to remedy tomorrow or sometime later this week.

The weekend was great. I went down to ATL to visit Brian and get some wedding stuff done. It flew by and I spent the past two days in a daze at work.

Tomorrow I catch a 7:40 flight to CT and then will spend the weekend at home. I haven't been home in a really long time, so it will be go to see everyone and all the new stuff.
